ONE ROOM CHALLENGE FALL 2022 – WEEK FOUR

I am literally biting my nails right now. so much to do in so little time. My contractor is finally scheduled to come out next week to begin laying floors and installing millwork for doors and moldings. Between hurricanes and product availability we have had a slight delay, but we are full steam ahead from here on out. Now is the time to make sure all the planning and details are ready for my contractor.

I am Star the Founder + Creative Director of Rejuvenation Home Studio. I established RHS in 2018, based in Central Florida. We are a full service interior design firm specializing in luxury residential and boutique commercial projects.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONSMOLDINGS

Please do not start any project without a plan. I REPEAT! Every project must start with a game plan!! Too much information is better then not having enough. We like to create specification folders for all of our projects, especially renovations. It’s a red notebook to be exact. There is typically floor plans, elevations and product information and the manufacturers specification sheet. We strive to leave no questions unanswered. Of course there are always nuances, but we are always able to come up with solutions.

Above are the elevations and millwork details for this project. In the name of “Armored In Beauty” I really wanted to add black molding and doors. It’s stately, regal, and timeless.

I played with the placement of the chair rail due to the ceiling height similar to the first image above. They are 8′ high ceilings, so by placing it lower will give the illusion of taller ceilings. We also are adding a crown for even more architectural detail. I am playing how to paint the door casings and crown in order to keep the feel of the tall ceilings. I am loving the two-tone paint molding in the inspiration image below.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS – DOORS

Every since we first purchased our house one of my main wishes was to get rid of the builder grade doors and go with the classic and timeless one panel shaker style door. This home just calls for it. Eight doors was gracious enough to partner with RHS on a couple of primed solid door slabs for my challenge. I have used them in a project before and was very pleased with the quality. My contractor requested that I get prehung doors so the balance of the doors are from Home Depot. These will for sure be painted black. I am still working on the paint and sheens, and I have samples on the way.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS – HARDWARE

If you want to instantly elevate the look of your home… start with investing in hardware. I LOVE when I can customize product. This door handle from the Select collection by Emtek allows you to just that! You have options for the rosette, the type of bar, handle, and metal finishes. I went with the L-bar on the Wilshire rosette in flat black with a white marble handle. They are stunning.
